About Tuscan Renaissance
The Renaissance with this term, rather than a style, we refer to the artistic culture which in Italy had Tuscany and, in particular, the city of Florence as its center of expansion. This movement can be divided into three periods: the early Renaissance or Humanism, from 1400 to 1500; the high Renaissance, from 1500 to 1540; the late Renaissance, from 1540 to 1600. In this splendid and unrepeatable cultural context, the evolution of furniture is enriched with new models – simple and double-body sideboards, benches, cabinets, beds with base and canopy – which can be traced back from the point of constructive view to architectural forms. The folding chairs are also characteristic: the Savonarola and the Dantesca. The rigorously squared volumes are adorned with frames, mouldings, beads, pilasters, capitals, lozenges, ashlars, lion paws and heads, grotesques, masks, all elements and motifs of the classical tradition. Walnut becomes the main wood in construction and various decorative techniques such as pastiglia, graffito, inlay and carving are refined.
