This antique George IV sterling silver vinaigrette has been realistically modeled in the form of a purse.
The surface of the box features an applied panel replicating the flap and strap of the purse, embellished with bright cut engraved and pin struck decoration depicting stylized leaf designs accented with a central floral motif.
The anterior surface of the vinaigrette is further ornamented with a bright cut engraved trellis pattern.
The subdued domed underside of the box is embellished with an impressive bright cut engraved elliptical floral motif on a starburst background encompassed with an undulating wriggle work border.
The strap decoration to the subtly domed hinged cover forms a plain thumbpiece and allows access to the hinged pierced decorated gilt grille.
The interior of the vinaigrette and grille retains the original gilding.
Condition
This antique vinaigrette is a very good gauge of silver, exceptional quality for its type and in exceptional condition in keeping with age. The bright cut engraved and pin struck decoration is very crisp. Full hallmarks struck to the interior of the vinaigrette are very clear in keeping with age.
