19th Century Empire Desk in Chestnut & Mahogany, Italy

Central Italy Empire desk, supported by lion feet, on the front it has a retractable door, which can be opened through a mechanism accessible on the bottom of the cabinet and concealing two drawers, it is surmounted by a smaller drawer. In the upper part there is a retractable roller door, concealing a pull-out desk top with a fake Moroccan insert (replaced later), equipped with a spring system that gives access to secrets; present compartments and drawers. The shelf has a single door with a mirror concealing a castle with compartments and drawers. The uprights on the front have the characteristic truncated-pyramidal shape, ending with gilt bronze drips and surmounted by female herms in burnished bronze in the lower body, while in the upper one there are Egyptian caryatids. In mahogany, the interiors are in chestnut.

19th Century English Walnut Bookcase or Secretary

This is a bookcase / secretary or Bureau bookcase, made in England, circa 1825. There is a Pagoda Shaped layered crown molding to the top of the piece (very unusual). There is a pair of doors to the upper that are made to fit the shape of the crown molding. The upper doors, the three drawers beneath the doors and the front of the fall on the desk are banded in walnut, followed by a String inlay of ebony with a smaller walnut banding followed by another string inlay of ebony with Kashmir walnut (the finest cut of Burr Walnut) to the middle. All of the drawer fronts on the base, both the right and left sides, and the interior of the upper doors are banded in walnut, followed by a String inlay of ebony with Kashmir walnut to the middle. There are 12 drawers and a cupboard behind the upper doors. All of these are banded in walnut with an inlay of rosewood and Kashmir walnut to the middle. There are 2 banks of drawers with 3 drawers each to the interior of the fall that are in bird’s-eye maple. Both of these sets of drawers pull-out to reveal a secret hiding place for valuables. The solid brass hardware in absolutely beautiful and of the finest quality. The desk rests on a set of bun feet. The overall condition and finish is fabulous. It retains it’s original key. This is a simply spectacular piece of the finest quality antique English Furniture available. It measures 46 1/2 in. wide x 25 1/2 in. deep x 90 in. tall.

Vintage Design

English trumeau of the 20th century. Double body funiture in walnut, burl, beech, mahogany and fruitwood. Lower body equipped with two smaller parallel drawers and two larger lower ones of good capacity and fall front. Inside of the bureau complete with numerous drawers, various document holder openings and a desk top of good size and service (see picture). Upper body with two doors with recessed antiqued mirrors and two small removable candle holder shelves (see picture). Interior with a top plus base (see picture). Furniture complete with two working keys (fall front and upper doors) ideal for use in a living room or studio, with pleasant decor. In good condition with some small signs of aging.
