These fine portraits of John and Caroline Bull have been drawn with pastel on vellum.
The frames come in their original frames.
Both portraits carry inscriptions on the reverse.
The portrait of Caroline Bull is inscribed: born 1795 – married 1822 – died 1879
The portrait of John Bull is inscribed with the following text: born 1792 – died 1858
Educated at ch. college Oxford……
Very Often these kind of portraits were executed at the occasion of a marriage. as there is a marriage date on the back of Mrs. Bull’s portrait we can presume that the pair of pastels were executed in1822.
The lower edge of Mr. Bull’s portrait has been trimmed.
